MUSIC RELEASES

"While VIUS hails from Palmerston North - a far cry from the likes of London or New York City - he has managed to create music that throws you straight into the heart of a concrete jungle through his wordless imagery. Prepare to go on an adventure."
-Yasmin Brown (Elsewhere Magazine)
Neon Dream Cover Art

NEON DREAM (SOLO EP)

Neon Dream explores my own takes on the sound of the "Cyberpunk" genre. Picture yourself walking through a sprawling futuristic metropolis at night – a concrete jungle of towering skyscrapers and neon billboards lighting up the sky from every angle. What would such a setting sound like musically?

Beyond Cover Art

BEYOND (SINGLE – FEAT. ALTER NATURAL)

This progressive cinematic electro-orchestral banger is the result of a year-long collaboration with a university friend of mine, Nathan Carter (Alter Natural). It fuses some of my lush, cinematic orchestral textures with Nathan's atmospheric electro-groove sound. Nathan comes from an electronic music background but wanted to delve into the orchestral scoring side of things, whereas I obviously come from an orchestral background but wanted to delve into the electronic. We decided to create a piece that would reflect a combination of both of our skillsets. "Beyond" is the result of our efforts.

WHAT I DO

As humans, we have an innate yearning to tell each other stories. Today, many of us work to express those stories through various forms of media – films, online videos, video games, audiobooks, podcasts, or something else along those lines. As a composer, my job involves helping people to communicate their stories by creating an accompanying original soundtrack – a soundtrack that brings out emotions and enhances the narrative.

I have created original music for storytellers from all around the world. When I see someone witness their story come to life through the music I've created, their elation brings me an indescribable sense of joy and fulfilment. I would love to share this experience with you too. Are you a storyteller? Your story deserves incredible music, and that's something I would love to help you with.

HOW IT WORKS

When you approach me with a project, I'll firstly determine whether it lies within the scope of my skillset. We can even hop on a voice/video call and discuss it further, if you prefer!

Following this initial discussion, I'll compose and send a short audio demo or two, free of charge. If you fall in love with the demo (as many in the past have done!), we'll sort out rates and contracts, before developing the demo into a fully-fledged piece of music. If not, I'll go back to the drawing board and try again, based on your feedback.

Throughout the composition process, I'll send you regular updates in the form of audio files, and work off the feedback you give me. This will continue until I deliver the final composition in the format you require.

If you need original music for a project you're working on, don't hesitate to flick me a message – even if it's something I haven't mentioned above!

BIO

Picture of Sai working in his studio

Sai Natarajan is a freelance composer and independent music producer based in New Zealand. Despite playing the piano since the age of six, the idea of telling stories through music didn't initially appeal to him. However, during his early high school years, he discovered that this was where his passions lay. In fact, this storytelling philosophy was the origin of his artist name, "VIUS" (which stood for "Virtual Illustration Using Sound"). He shortly realised that this was a hilariously cheesy abbreviation, but kept the shortened form because it sounded cool.

He has been active on the composing scene since 2016, and has since worked on a wide variety of projects. He has scored theme music for YouTube channels, Twitch channels and various podcasts. He has created background music for commercials, and original soundtracks for children's audiobooks. In January 2020, he released his debut solo EP, "Neon Dream." Throughout 2020 and 2021, he worked on his first ever video game score ("Medievalien"). In 2021, he also completed his first ever orchestral concert work (which was subsequently recorded by Orchestra Wellington and premiered by the Manawatu Youth Orchestra), before finishing off his studies at the New Zealand School of Music.

In his spare time, Sai jams with his musician friends, takes terrible photographs, and plays far too much Rocket League for his own good. He also weirdly enjoys referring to himself in the third person.
